Three tiers. One standard.

Every project gets the same engineering rigor. The tiers reflect how much of the process you need us for.

Tier 01

Print & Deliver

You send a print-ready file. We print it in the right material, handle post-processing, and deliver a finished part. Fast turnaround, no ambiguity.

You bring the STL — we make the part

Tier 02

Iterate & Refine

You have a design that needs work. We consult on material selection, optimize for printability, run test iterations, and deliver a validated prototype that actually performs.

You bring the design — we make it work

Tier 03

Full Prototype Development

You have a concept. We handle design, material selection, multi-component builds, electronics integration, and system-level engineering. Discovery call required.

You bring the idea — we build the system

Engineering-grade materials.

We don't just print in PLA. We match the material to the mechanical, thermal, and environmental demands of your application.

Standard

  • PLA — Rapid prototyping, visual models, low-stress functional parts
  • PETG — Chemical resistance, moderate flexibility, outdoor-capable
  • TPU — Flexible and elastic parts, gaskets, bumpers, grips

Performance

  • ASA — UV-stable, heat-resistant, ideal for outdoor and automotive
  • Polycarbonate — Impact strength, optical clarity, high-temp tolerance

Engineering

  • Carbon Fiber PA11 Nylon — Extreme rigidity, low weight, high-stress mechanicals
  • Nylon — Wear resistance, self-lubricating, living hinges

Not sure which material you need? That's what Tier 02 is for. We'll evaluate your application requirements — mechanical loads, operating temperature, chemical exposure, UV exposure — and recommend the right material before we print a single layer.

From conversation to prototype.

No bloated timelines. No mystery. Here's the path from first contact to a part in your hands.

01

Submit

Send us your files, sketches, or concept through the contact form. Tell us what you're building and what it needs to survive.

02

Scope

We review your project, recommend a tier and material, and send a clear quote. Tier 03 projects start with a discovery call.

03

Build

We print, test, and iterate. You get progress updates and photos. If something needs to change, we catch it early.

04

Deliver

Finished prototype, delivered with material specs and any notes on design improvements for your next iteration or production run.

Not a print shop.

Miniature Systems is a prototyping studio in Coralville, Iowa, founded by Will Godfrey — an engineer and entrepreneur with a background in enterprise technology and a deep focus on building things that work.

Before Miniature Systems, Will spent nine years at McKinsey & Company as a Digital Practice Expert, leading front-office technology architecture for Fortune 500 clients. He built the systems other people made decks about.

Now he applies that same systems thinking to physical prototyping. Every project is evaluated not just for printability, but for how the part fits into a larger system — mechanical loads, thermal environment, assembly constraints, and the path from prototype to production.

We serve startups turning a hardware concept into their first functional prototype, and local businesses that need custom parts, tooling, and fixtures without the lead time of a traditional machine shop.
